I think this is a young Cicada - Neocicada hieroglyphica
Plant City, FL, Hillborough County, Florida, USA
December 14, 2007
Size: 1.25 inch long
My boyfriend was grinding metal pipe. He came into the house to show me this insect on his shirt. When I took it outside to photograph, it flew into the neighbors oak tree. I assumed he was gone for good. My boyfriend resumed gringing again this insect was back in seconds on his shirt. Does anyone think that the high pitched sound of the grinding could have attracted him/her?

Neocicada hieroglyphica
This is not the same species as the one photographed half a year earlier; the thorax does not have the same bright green patches.

Seems
quite plausible, nice observation!
