An hemipteran with oddly colored elytra: may be just a factor of the shade but I don't think so. It persists through several photos. Very long mouthparts. Tallgrass prairie vegetation, likely Silphium perfoliatum or Echinacea angustifolium.

It's hard to say much more, but the pattern looks a bit like this one (I think there is a shadow falling across the back of your specimen):

Wow! I didn't think anything could have that pattern on the back half. It looks like modern art :) It also has the long mouth part of a plant feeder rather than reduvid. The front half is definitely in shadow. Thank you. I will watch for it next summer.
