Pristaulacus strangaliae from Fairbanks Alaska - Pristaulacus strangaliae - female

Pristaulacus strangaliae from Fairbanks Alaska - Pristaulacus strangaliae - Female
Fairbanks: Murphy Dome Road, North Star County, Alaska, USA
August 1, 2007
Size: 12 mm
Perhaps a variety of P. strangaliae. Using Townes's key (1950), this specimen keys to P. strangaliae except for the wings slightly suffused with rust color. Other species that key after P. strangaliae with wings suffused with rust color differ from this specimen in sculpturing, wing pattern spotting, and in the case of foxleei, missing the second recurrent vein in the forewing. Unlike these latter species, which according to Townes's key range from the Rockies westward, P. strangaliae ranges eastward. This would fit with the location of this specimen, north of the Alaska range, which extends from the Rockies and arches westward.
