Big-eyed Toad Bug - Gelastocoris oculatus
Cupertino, Lower Stevens Creek, Santa Cruz Mtns, Santa Clara County, California, USA

Size: ~6 mm
This one has entered the water at the edge of the stream. When alarmed they retreat to areas of heavier gravel where they can blend and hide. When foraging they work the wet sand at the stream edge. They also hop into algae mats in the shallows.
