How has Zerene cesonia been ruled out here?
Z. cesonia (Southern Dogface) is a regular in Texas and far more likely. I have never heard of the California Dogface this far from Cal.

Southern Dogface (Zerene cesonia)
I agree 100% with James - the California Dogface can only be found in western California - nowhere near San Antonio, TX. It's possible that you'd see a Southern Dogface in California, but the only way you'd see a California Dogface in Texas is if someone deliberately brought it there. :)
