Crane fly larva or midge larva?

I found this in a stream but is it a crane fly larva or midge larva?

correct; fam. confirmed by Artem Zaitsev
'Anchytarsus-like' (A.Zaitsev)

Right. Not a cranefly, defini
Right. Not a cranefly, definitely a beetle. But it looks too dorso-ventrally flattened to be either elaterid (click beetle) or tenebrionid (darkling beetle). How about a water beetle larva? They're aquatic.

Oops:-)
Ha! I didn't even read the part about it being found in a stream! Good grief, I wish there were a way to DELETE stupid comments, not just edit them:-)

No Diptera
Since it has true legs, it cannot be the larva of a Diptera. I am thinking of a beetle larva, reminiscent of Elateridae but possibly something completely diffferent.

Tenebrionidae?
This is very reminiscent of a "mealworm," family Tenebrionidae. They are also called "false wireworms" for obvious reasons.
