In case the comments are confusing: there were 4 images I mistakenly linked as one individual. Realized later that the other 2 were a whirlygig beetle in the same photo tank.

I am now skeptical that these photos show a single individual. I think I will try to split this into two observations. Perhaps that will help.

It's obvious (to beetle weirdos like me) that these are two different taxa - in two different families. It's what I did when I first ID'd these two critters ...

 
Would you agree that the ones
Would you agree that the ones seen from outside the water are Dineutus? If so, I'll delete the other two photos and post them as a Tropisternus.

NO!
It's NOT Dineutus. It's a hydrophilid, probably Tropisternus
