Okanagana vanduzeei mating - Okanagana vanduzeei - male - female

Okanagana vanduzeei mating - Okanagana vanduzeei - Male Female
Malibu Creek State Park, Los Angeles County, California, USA
June 14, 2006
I observed this pair mating from start to finish. As soon as the female touched the male, his normally continuous song became discontinuous. The male flicked his wings and rotated his genitalia 90 degrees right and left. The pair climbed over one another, until they ended up positioned together at a 45 degree angle with respect to the ventral axis. Mating lasted 5 min, perhaps interruped by me.
Afterwards, the male resumed singing immediately after flying to a nearby plant. The female flew to the ground.
