Green Coloring - Phanaeus igneus - male

Green Coloring - Phanaeus igneus - Male
Lithia Springs County Park, HIllsborough County, Florida, USA
December 15, 2007
Size: 19 mm
I was surprised to bait these this late in the season. Mostly females came to one of my bait traps yet other traps yeilded nothing. It had rained the previous evening for the first time in 6 weeks. This beetle shows the green coloring as opposed to the wine/burgendy coloring I've often seen in other FL locations.

Correction
Thanks for the correction, Phillip. I have edited the page to reflect the correct gender. These beetles don't seem to be as common as the P. vindex.
