Hey guys, I have been going through a lot of the stink bug images here and on iNaturalist and came across an interesting observation from South Florida- near Ft. Lauderdale. An iNat user came across a very interesting stink bug that Joe Eger and DB Thomas both identified as Tyrannocoris jole. I'd love to get that observation into the guide over here. Unfortunately, that user hasn't been active in some time, so I'm not sure I'll be able to get him/her to post it.
Can those of you in South Florida keep an eye out for this predatory stink bug? If you find it, I'd recommend collection if you don't have moral qualms about insect collection. Dr. Eger said that the species is known from Florida although he and the Florida State Collection of Arthropods only have a few specimens each so I'm sure any academic institution would love to have specimens.
See the posting from iNaturalist
here to see what to look for and to see where the bug was seen last.
Thanks!
Side note: I'm sure not everyone looks through the forum consistently- does anyone know of active naturalists who are out in that area that might be willing to look?
