another Stichillus - Stichillus - female

another Stichillus - Stichillus - Female
Great Falls, C&O Canal NHP, Montgomery County, Maryland, USA
December 3, 2018
Keys out to Stichillus using the MND key (1). After Dr. Brown’s correction of the ID of this one from the same location, I was careful to get photos of the area around the ocelli. The “indented line” separating the ocellar triangle from the frons is a lot more subtle than I would have expected from the MND figure (fig. 51.7)

Couplet numbers and features used in the ID:
1) Anterior spiracle lateral in position, female with wings
2) Tibiae with bristles
3) Rs not forked
10) arista “normal”
11) fore tibiae with bristles on basal half, frons w/o a median furrow
12) hind tibiae with hair seams
13) hind tibiae with 2 hair seams, junction of apex of C and R4+5 simple, supra-antennal bristles absent
14) “Ocelli widely separated; lateral ocelli situated close to eye margins; ocellar triangle separated from frons by an indented line forming three variably accentuated loops”
