Size: 8 mm
A syrphid fly. Hoping the Syrphid experts on here can help me out. Looks somewhat similar to Platych*eirus. Placing there for now.

. Based on Andrew Long's comment on Steve's photo, I thought this might be P. quadratus based on widened middle tibiae. Checking with the key in
