Tenthredinidae
100 Acre Wood, Winneshiek County, Iowa, USA
July 6, 2018
July 3, 2018: collected larva on Green headed coneflower, Rudbeckia laciniata
July 10, 2018: not eating much, just like the one on Goldenrod

July 13, 2018: still not really feeding, gave it Goldenrod and Coneflower, will release if doesn't feed
July 15, 2018: still no herbivory, released on the plant it was originally collected on

Here is a Rudbeckia laciniata feeder on BG

This seems to be a prepupa
So it makes sense that it wasn't feeding. It just wanted some soil to burrow into.

Thank you.
Yes, it makes sense.
Too bad it didn't make sense (to me) at the time, although I still can't over winter them even with expert instruction.

Moved
Moved from Common Sawflies.

subfamily Tenthredininae at least
(7 annulets)

Hard to know, especially without feeding...
I'm not much good with larvae (for now), but it's superficially similar to Macrophya in appearance. If this was indeed its host plant then Macrophya is likely.

Thank you.
There's always next year. But even if they eat and pupate, I can't seem to overwinter to adult.
