looks like Melanoplus complanatipes
Melanoplus cinereus is very closely related, but I think not found in this region. They are likely the same species, with M. cinereus being a more southwestern version. M. bowditchi is also very close, and takes over further to the east. All live primarily on Composite shrubs.
