Formicidae, silken nesting quarters - Temnothorax longispinosus

Formicidae, silken nesting quarters - Temnothorax longispinosus
Craggy Rocks, Winneshiek County, Iowa, USA
June 16, 2018
Did the wasps emerge and the ants move in?
Temporary shelter?
Are the ants just visiting and feeding on wasp pupae?
Thanks

Interesting, I guess they could be nesting in the fluff. This species is an opportunistic cavity nester after all.

Thank you.
I guess if I knew my ants well enough, or at least better, I might have remembered a previous encounter in a temporary shelter. You giving them an ID sure helped.
