Prodoxidae, Bogus Yucca Moths - Prodoxus

Prodoxidae, Bogus Yucca Moths - Prodoxus
300th Street, Boone County, Iowa, USA
March 29, 2018
John van der Linden introduced me to the Bogus Yucca Moths via his post on BG so of course I wanted to see them and try to rear them.

March 22, 2018: driving a back gravel road in central Iowa, saw last year's flowering stems of Yuccas in the road ditch. Had to have some.
March 27, 2018: sorted through the stems, some were so badly pecked that there wasn't any life left in them

divided the rest of the stems into several rearing jars, cut a a few stems open, 3 larvae

No wonder John questioned what the larvae were when he found them in the Yucca stems:

March 29, 2018: cut open a stem, the boring path and the cell/cocoon within
May 13, 2018: pupa removed from a cocoon
May 13, 2018: first moth (of many) emerged from the stems
another

Batch rearing
