Gray Giant - Acanthocephala alata

Gray Giant - Acanthocephala alata
Austin, Wild Connections, Travis County, Texas, USA
October 21, 2005
While looking up other Acanthocephala species, I noticed alata (had not known about this one before!), checked all my old photos of A. declivis, and found 2 examples with the characteristic dark antennal segments and dark spot. This puts the edge of range into Austin, although it is certainly not common here. This explains the different color on the antennae, which I had originally thought was just variation!
