Pointed-winged Fly - Lonchoptera bifurcata - Female
Groton, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, USA
October 6, 2007

Moved from Lonchoptera.

Lonchoptera bifurcata (Fallén, 1810)
Det. John Klymko 2009.

Is this a synonym of one of Curran's 1934 species of a fifth North American species?

Read this paper:
Klymko, J. and S.A. Marshall. 2008. Review of the Nearctic Lonchopteridae (Diptera), including descriptions of three new species. Canadian Entomologist. 140; 6; Pages 649-673

Totally awesome!
I keyed out some of these last year, so I know how small they are! Aside, an alternate name is "spear-winged flies."
