We think of Spilosoma as having
long soft hairs scattered throughout. This bristly crew cut makes us think more of Estigmene acrea. Check there and see what you think.

I am a self-proclaimed
non-expert
:)
Looking through the images of Salt Marsh Caterpillars and Yellow Bear Caterpillars, I found a wide range of color patterns. There are even several images under both species that look identical to me.
I have found many Salt Marsh Moths in the area where these caterpillar pictures were taken.
Thanks for your input and assistance. It is truly appreciated.

Yes, we have often felt the same way
about the images, but we also are amateurs. It would be great if a caterpillar expert stopped in and straightened things out. We have often thought about doing it ourselves, but are not certain we know enough. Maybe we will take a shot at it anyway and see if we can improve things there. Thanks for the push!
