Asparagus Beetle - Crioceris asparagi

Asparagus Beetle - Crioceris asparagi
Near Ruraldale, Upshur County, West Virginia, USA
May 5, 2003
These beetles, Crioceris asparagi, seem to be quite variable. The books show two black spots on the pronotum, for example, while in my photo most of the pronotum is dark. Also on my photo the yellow spots really look like compact spots, while in the field guides they are more like large yellow areas.

Of course the ID was pretty easy for me given the plant that they are on!
