In this immediate area, which is on either side of the short path from the parking lot to the beach, there were many leaves on several adjacent bushes that had these infestations. Quite a few of the leaves on the same bushes also had the fungal disease Helminthosporium, which makes purple spots, and often the galls appeared to have more of the fungus than the surrounding leaf surface did.
