Coneflower Borer? Papaipema nelita? - Papaipema

Coneflower Borer? Papaipema nelita? - Papaipema
Wapsi Environmental Education Center, Clinton (Scott County Conservation Board) County, Iowa, USA
August 15, 2016
Size: 20 mm
Gray-bronze forewings anterior to PM line, grayer posterior. Five small white dots on costa near tip. Beadle & Seabrooke state that white orbicular & reniform spots are rare, but this moth displays them clearly. Per Beadle & Seabrooke, I checked Papaipema eupatori but saw little resemblance in the illustration in their book or in the photos for that species on BugGuide. P. nelita appears to fit the best.
