Papaipema on Rattlesnake Master - Papaipema cataphracta

Papaipema on Rattlesnake Master - Papaipema cataphracta
100 Acre Wood, Winneshiek County, Iowa, USA
July 22, 2018
July 11, 2018: a flower stalk of Rattlesnake Master, Eryngium yuccifolium, was drooping in the yard, bent at the hole in the stalk
July 13, 2018: collected the stalk, a 3 stripe larva (but oh what fun to pipe dream that it might be the elusive P. eryngii, a zero stripe larva)
July 14, 2018: no frass, spent larval shed, did larva die after molt?
July 15, 2018: finally, frass
July 21, 2018: larva has to be running out plant material to feed on inside the stalk so coaxed it into a drilled out carrott
October 2, 2018: adult
