Baetis bicaudatus
Hi Ken,

Not Callibaetis, as the hind wings are not the the right shape for that genus. I believe this male imago to be Baetis bicaudatus.

Incidentally, mayfly body length is measured from the front of the head to the end of the abdomen, and doesn't include the length of the tails. Given the thread count of your beat cloth as listed in your profile (3.3 threads per millimeter), I would estimate the body length of this mayfly to be ~4.5 mm.

Thanks -
very much, Roger - a new one for me! Yes, I am aware of what to measure - I usually initially compare the length of the bug (minus tails or legs) to the width of my finger, which is how I got to 10 mm. This one was a bit harder with the curled abdomen, so I may have been pretty far off, sorry! Interestingly, when I try to count threads on this image and compare to body length, I'm still getting something like 8 mm, so there is clearly some room for error or subjectivity with pics like this...

Edit - my black light sheet has 3.3 threads per mm, but my beat sheet (this image) has 2.0 threads per mm.
