Choristoneura or Pandemis sp - Choristoneura rosaceana - Male
Port Alberni, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada
July 26, 2007
OK - so I was quite happy to say this was an Oblique-banded Leafroller - Choristoneura rosaceana - until I checked out Eric La Gasa's MPG page and now I'm wondering how you tell it apart from Pandemis cerasana, short of dissecting one??

Thanks, Jason. That's really helpful to know. Have been able to ID a few more photos on that basis.

This is a male C. rosaceana.
This is a male C. rosaceana. It can be separated from Pandemis since it has a tiny dark triangular costal fold, while Pandemis has none. For females, the costa of the FW is much more sinuous than Pandemis.

Oh boy....
I have several more photos of these too - not going to be easy, I see!
