Pelecinid Wasp (Pelecinus polyturator)
These sure have a long abdomen. Here,s one to compare from the guide.

Thanks for the lead Tom. Your wasp has white on it, so I'm guessing they are different species of same genus.

same species
A number of color variations have been described, especially in the tropics, but most sources say that the genus (and family) is represented by a single species north of Mexico, although it may eventually get split into two or more. Pelecinus polyturator ranges from Argentina to Canada; in eastern North America, it's most common in July and August. Lots of interesting info at Ohio State's "The Pelecinus Project", including an account and drawings of the unusual mating behavior, beginning here.

Simple!
Having only one species to worry about makes it simple enough! Thanks for the assist Robin.
