another hairy anthomyiid - Eutrichota fuscipes - Male
Brookside Gardens, Montgomery County, Maryland, USA
February 3, 2019
Size: length 10.5mm to wingtips
This might be another Euthricota/Eremomyioides but I don’t have any photos showing the anepimeron, meron, and katepimeron that are needed for couplet 11 of the MND anthomyiid key (1). If I assume that those sclerites are haired and use Huckett’s key for males (2), this appears to be Euthricota fuscipes (but that depends on what Huckett meant by an “inclusive” distance between the posterior ocelli). If I assume that at least one of those thoracic sclerites isn’t haired, the MND key leads to Paregle aestiva a.k.a Nupedia aestiva, also apparently a.k.a Pegoplata aestiva. Assuming the photo in the Wikipedia is correct, that’s not what this fly is.

I could obviously use some help here before I drive myself completely nuts. TIA

might be
one of the species other than the ones MND describes as "diminutive". The palps don't look all that long and the face doesn't seem particularly protuberant but I'm relying on MND and don't have access to Griffiths. It's your call
