Ground Beetle 1730 - Amara aulica

Ground Beetle 1730 - Amara aulica
Monhegan Island, Lincoln County, Maine, USA
August 26, 2007
Size: ~13mm
I'm guessing it's something in Ptero*stichus even though I could find nothing on line that looked convincing. Sorry, this is the only image I took so no good leg shots.

Image is consistent with Amara aulica
in subgenus Curtonotus as already stated by Boris Buche. This introduced species may be the largest Amara species in North America (up to 14.3mm). A. aulica would be a new state record for ME; already known in adjacent NH and NB. A (confirmed) new record in ME would contribute to the distribution records presented in a forthcoming book by Yves Bousquet on the northeastern carabid fauna.

Amara aulica
Steve, I received word from Yves Bousquet that your photographs together with good field notes qualify for a new state record for Maine; to be included in his forthcoming book on the northeastern carabid fauna. Thanks much!
As a brand new contributing editor unsure of procedures, I do not know the way (assuming I can) to change the name of your images from "Amara" to "Amara aulica", then create a new Guide slot that says "Amara aulica", then move all your renamed pictures to that slot? Please someone tell me the steps. I didn't get much out of the "Help" menu. Thanks

Steps:
1. Log in
2. Tag all images
3. navigate in taxonomy mode to genus level
4. create new guide page
5. click on the new guide page
6. change to "images" mode
7. untag images

the species name is attached automatically - neat, ey?

success in moving images
Thanks Boris. After first false attempt I discovered that I needed to add this extra step after your step 6 above: click on "Move tagged images". Doing that finishes the job and automatically untags those images. It is neat that this procedure automatically links the name "Amara aulica" with the images.

Hard one to guess,
because it belongs into a genus in which most other species look very different: Amara!

This is a species of the subgenus Curtonotus, probably A.aulica (occurrs in Europe as well) - I can see no difference.

Excellent!
Thanks Boris.
