Syrphus - Syrphus torvus - female

Syrphus - Syrphus torvus - Female
Alberni Valley - Taylor River Flats, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada
June 10, 2013
This is the second of our two specimens which came up with a Syrphus torvus match on BOLD.
All top 99 matches were for torvus: 2 at 100% which were probably ours; remaining 97 ranged from 99.83% down to 99.64%.
Unfortunately none of our photos are good enough to see whether or not hairs are present in the eyes. This close-up of the head is the best we have - looks as if there may possibly be hairs along the edge of the right eye. Have also attached full sized shot.

I'll leave this one at genus and move the other one back there too.

Yes; they look like hairs to me. Personally, I would place this one in Syrphus torvus.
