this is believed to be a mid stage instar (Libby Avis) of either D.grisefacta or D.vagans. It was found inside a dwelling in early December 2017. To determine the ID the caterpillar was kept over winter in natural winter conditions. It survived winter well but refused all foliage species offered (all local conifer and local broadleaf) which would have confirmed the species (conifers for D.grisefacta, broadleaf for D.vagans). The caterpillar eventually deceased. I suspect it is D.grisefacta but would like this confirmed or otherways.
