Liturgusa maya - female

Liturgusa maya - Female
Long Key Nature Center, Davie, Broward County, Florida, USA
February 10, 2019
I tried unsuccessfully to find this new introduced species (first documented in (1)) once during summer 2018. This February my dad was heading down to Ft. Lauderdale on business, so I told him to look for this mantid if he had the time. After wandering around at Long Key for a while, he discovered that waving a hand over the wooden railings at the preserve would cause the nymphs, previously so well camouflaged as to be undetectable, to skitter away and reveal themselves. In this manner he was able to capture 4.
