Synonyms and other taxonomic changes
Pygodasis was described by Bradley (1957) as a subgenus of Campsomeris.(1) Argaman (1996) assigned generic status to Pygodasis, which was implicitly supported by Osten (2005).(2)

Campsomeris (sensu stricto) is a Neotropical genus and does not occur in the USA and Canada.

Identification
Forewing with 2 submarginal cells and 2 recurrent veins (venation shared with Dielis and Xanthocampsomeris). Most species of Pygodasis (apart from male P. quadrimaculata) have black setae on the body.

Pygodasis ephippium ephippium: Abdomen with broad orange bands on T2 and T3; abdominal fringe black; wings black. Range: Arizona and Texas


Pygodasis quadrimaculata: Abdomen with paired yellow spots on T2 and T3; abdominal fringe black; wings usually dark. Range: eastern US, south to Florida and Louisiana, north to New Jersey
