Galerita janus

Galerita janus
Pulaski County, Kentucky, USA
October 4, 2003
Size: 17 mm total beetle size
Head shape of Galerita janus. More rounded where bicolor is straighter. I would be interested in knowing how to separate Galerita_lecontei from bicolor and janus.

Separation of the three Galerita species
noted above is described well with illustrations in _Ground Beetles & Wrinkled bark Beetles of South Carolina_ by Ciegler (2000), p. 128. Every North American carabid worker should have access to this excellent monograph which details the southeastern carabid fauna. Still in print I hope: ISBN 0-615-11426-1; purchase from http://dprod4.clemson.edu/olos/asp/searchmain.asp

Why can't I edit my own comment?
Nobody has replied to my above comment so why do I get "Duplication, comment already inserted" when I try to make a correction to my own comment above? I was simply trying to capitalize the "b" to "Bark" in the above book title. Refreshing or logging out and back in again didn't help. This "bug" has happened sporadically in past. Am I doing something wrong?

Case insensitive
The software, as you know, prevents submission of duplicate comments, and that routine must be case insensitive. If you make some other minor change that is not a case change, it should work.

That's my hypothesis, at least. Now, of course, I'm not sure if you can change it, with these replies, but it is worth remembering for the next time.

(I just checked that in this comment, and case changes are rejected as duplicate, but I added this sentence and it took the changes.

Not a "bug" after all,
just another "case" of user ignorance on my part. Thanks Patrick!
