Lionepha erasa (LeConte 1859) - Lionepha probata - Male
Santaquin Canyon, Tinney Flat, 7,055' elevation , Utah County, Utah, USA
July 18, 2017
Size: ~3.8 mm
A widespread species in the west, but not recorded in Utah by Bousquet 2012.

Lionepha probata (Casey, 1918)
This taxon is removed from synonymy with L. erasa (LeConte, 1859) in a paper by Maddison & Sproul (2020) that is addressed in the Registry of Nearctic Geadephaga. Unlike strictly west coastal L. erasa, its sibling L. probata extends eastward to the regional span Montana-New Mexico.

Very interesting. Thank you f
Very interesting. Thank you for this update.

2020 update: Lionepha erasa-like, but not L. erasa
and therefore not a new state record for Utah after all. According to personal communication (2020) with DR Maddison, this is "surely Lionepha probata."
