elongate-bodied springtail - Pogonognathellus

elongate-bodied springtail - Pogonognathellus
Parkville, Baltimore County, Maryland, USA
March 1, 2019
Size: 3.5 mm
Found in well-decayed hardwood log. 3.5 mm is body length, excluding antennae. Depending on camera angle, the appearance of this springtail can vary significantly, as seen in the additional photos. Perhaps Pogonognathellus dubius?

Pogonognathellus sp.
In P. dubius the antennae are as long as the body (head+trunk).

antenna:body ratio
Thanks for feedback. I took 30 photos of this springtail of varying quality (they are very hard to photograph!) I chose three of them that had not too much antennae curvature, and fairly decent clarity of both antenna and body. For each of these, I superimposed segments atop an antenna and the body, and measured their lengths to get an estimate of the antenna:body ratio. Variation can be attributed to the degree of upward/downward curvature of the antenna, measurement error of segments, linearization of curves, etc. My estimates of this ratio were 80%, 82% and 84%. Does this provide any further information towards ID to species level?

Educated guess = palespeciesgroup Felderhoff et al 2010
Since the revision of Felderhoff et al in 2010, P. flavescens (with shorter antennae than dubius) was 'elevated' to a speciescomplex/group.
