fuzzy bumble bee with yellow clypeus - Anthophora bomboides

fuzzy bumble bee with yellow clypeus - Anthophora bomboides
Ludwig Prairie Preserve, Winneshiek County, Iowa, USA
June 27, 2018
Size: ~13 mm
I'm having trouble trying to determine what this bee is. It has a fuzzy black abdomen like bumble bees, but it also has a yellow clypeus and I don't know of any bumble bees that do. I may be wrong about that. I noticed that there is an eastern bumble-bee digger that does have a yellow clypeus, but Iowa does not appear to be in the range of bumble-bee diggers. It does have a band of yellow hairs on the front of its abdomen like the eastern bumble-bee digger, but I don't rule out long-horned or mining bees either. Found on a dry pristine prairie.

Thanks so much for identifying this fuzzy bee for me, John! You made my day, since I thought I was crazy for even suggesting the eastern bumble-bee digger as a possibility. I will be on the lookout for this bee at Ludwig Prairie Preserve in 2019 for some better photos.
