red wasp with black wings - Cremnops - female

red wasp with black wings - Cremnops - Female
Ludwig Prairie Preserve, Winneshiek County, Iowa, USA
June 27, 2018
Size: ~7 mm
I couldn't find a good match for this small female red wasp with black wings that had an ovipositor about that same size. The best I could do was find female wasps in the Bracon genus that had similar ovipositors and colors, but no slam dunks for an ID. Maybe it is an ichneumon wasp, since I didn't spend much time looking for matches there.

Cremnops (female)…
Can't see the submarginal wing cell clearly, so this could possibly be in another genus, but I would leave it here for now.

See reference here.

Cremnops (female)
Thanks so much for identifying this colorful red wasp, Ross! I was looking through my photos from Ludwig Prairie Preserve, and I do have some photos of a male that I'm sure belongs with this female, and there may be some good wing detail there. Would you like me to submit photos of that male braconid wasp to BugGuide?
