lined tiger moth - Agaraea semivitrea
Pharr, Hidalgo County, Texas, USA
December 29, 2007
on wall of store at night; couldn't find a match for this one but maybe I overlooked a few...

Thanks a lot, Bob
for tracking down the ID and getting that extra info. I emailed the original photo to Ed just now. Moved from Tiger Moths to new species page.

Agaraea semivitrea (New Addition to North American Fauna)
Identified by Ed Knudson who, together with Charles Bordelon, is our foremost authority on lepidoptera of the Rio Grande region. Ed tells me they have a paper in preparation detailing the eight specimens they have encountered since 2005, and would like to add this photo with its supporting date and locality data. Please send photo as an email attachment to eknudson@earthlink.net. I have sharpened the photo in FocusMagic and reposted it here. Great find!
