Lichen critter - underside rolling up - Leucochrysa pavida

Lichen critter - underside rolling up - Leucochrysa pavida
Jesup, Wayne County, Georgia, USA
January 6, 2008
Size: about 1/4 inch MAX
This is the belly-side as it folds up like a pill-bug when turned over ! This looks like a crab, but I am assuming it is an insect or millipede or some such. It clearly uses pieces of lichen for camo, and it's truly TINY !!! I am still working on trying to get a better photo ...

I can't make out any features here,
but this has the general appearance of a debris-carrying green lacewing larva. Compare pictures here and below.

Chrysopidae
Yeah, I would think that it's some sort of chrysopid larvae -- a lacewing larvae! In the book For Love of Insects, Thomas Eisner calls them "trash carriers." They roll around in all sorts of debris!
