Hoded owlet moth larva? - Cucullia florea

Hoded owlet moth larva? - Cucullia florea
Othello Rd., near Hope, Fraser Valley, British Columbia, Canada
September 18, 2005
This larva was feeding on some small, yellow flowers. I took it home hoping i could rear it to adulthood and thus, find out what it was, but unfortunately it died shortly after taking this photo. It looks somewhat similar to a Cucullia asteroides larva.

Moved
Moved from asteroides-like.

Moved

There are apparently several very
similar species in Cucullia such as C. flores, but all the image on BugGuide are currently on the C. asteroides page, so we will move this one there too, until an expert can tell us more. The small yellow flowers are Goldenrod. Don't know what species you have out there. Our local Solidago ridellii looks very similar.
