Large gray spider with web-lined hole - Geolycosa

Large gray spider with web-lined hole - Geolycosa
Petrified Forest National Park , Apache County, Arizona, USA
March 27, 2019
Size: 1.5" long body
Dune habitat. Spider had distinct web lines hole in sand.

rafaelana
similar to wrighti but darker, only other similar species is gosoga, which only ranges into extreme northwest arizona in the small bit of mojave that bleeds into it.

Nice
find.
It is a Geolycosa, but most likely need a ventral view to determine species.

The burrow beneath the spider appears to be from a completely different specimen, as a burrowing wolf spider would not web itself out of it's burrow. It also appears too small.

The webbed up burrow is most likely a juvenile specimen preparing to molt, or an abandoned burrow taken over by a web building spider.

Geolycosa Holes
Thanks! There were a lot of these holes all over the small dune.
