This brightly colored frit fly (Chloropidae) was found on a pear tree and taken inside to photograph. It is perhaps a Thaumatomyia sp.

Frit Fly
Never heard of frit flies before. This one is very pretty...great photo.

 
Frit flies
These are also sometimes called "grass flies" because their larvae live in grass stems. Most of the ones I see are rather dull, but this large family also contains a fair number of colorful species.
