red fly with marked wings - Suillia quinquepunctata

red fly with marked wings - Suillia quinquepunctata
Lake Meyer Park, Winneshiek County, Iowa, USA
March 29, 2019
Size: ~7 mm
This fly was feeding with some dung flies on fresh flowing sap from a tree in a woodland. At first I thought it was a dung fly (Scathophaga)but the red color was too vibrant and there were distinct black marks on its wings. I'm wondering if it might instead be in the family Heleomyzidae, and maybe in the genus Suillia? There looks to be some dark stripes on its abdomen.

Suillia quinquepunctata
Thanks for taking this colorful little sap feeder down to species, John! I know now that what I called dark markings on its wings are actually five black spots on each wing! Looking at the data, this seems to be a Suillia species that flies early in the season here in Iowa.
