gray fly

gray fly
Lake Meyer Park, Winneshiek County, Iowa, USA
April 2, 2018
Size: ~7 mm
This fly reminds me of a dung fly with its general size and shape, but the wings have no dark marks. Maybe a root-maggot fly? It seems to be in the superfamily Muscoidea with parallel wing veins ending at the tip, but I couldn't find any close matches as I scanned through Muscoidea.

Thanks for your help at identifying this fly, John! I wasn't even looking in the right subsection as I tried to figure out what it might be.
