orange and black sawfly - Dolerus

orange and black sawfly - Dolerus
Lake Meyer Park, Winneshiek County, Iowa, USA
April 8, 2019
Size: ~10 mm
This sawfly with orange and black marks on its thorax was feeding on sap from a wounded tree in a woodland. From the look of the black arrow on its orange thorax, it resembles a female Dolerus unicolor. I read that the males are all black, and there was an all black sawfly that I photographed very close to this one. I will submit photos of that sawfly shortly. Additionally, I had sent photos of a black sawfly identified as Dolerus that had been taken on 4/9/2019, and they could be the same species as the male photos I will be adding later today.
