fly with yellow face - Lispe

fly with yellow face - Lispe
Lake Meyer Park, Winneshiek County, Iowa, USA
April 15, 2019
Size: ~6 mm
This medium-sized fly was crawling around on the leaves and logs in a woodland habitat. It has checkerboard black and white markings on its abdomen and a distinctive yellow face. I did find some similar examples in the genus Lispe, but I'm sure there are other flies out there with similar shapes and colors. The palpi do appear dilated though.
