Tiny backyard spider - Trichonephila clavipes

Tiny backyard spider - Trichonephila clavipes
Tallahassee, Leon County, Florida, USA
April 18, 2019
Size: 2-3mm
Small, about 2 to 3mm total body length, not including legs. It set up shop in a bulbine plant on my back deck and seems to be successfully grazing on the small insect fauna of my backyard. Hopefully its getting some mosquitos.

Looks to be a baby Nephila clavipes

Well, I'll be darned! I think you're right. I'm so use to seeing the adults in our backyard, I didn't imagine that they would ever be so small. It has a small web that's messy and haphazard like a golden silk. And it appears to be a very effective hunter. Thanks!
