Do you know anything about the holes/openings around the pupa in the cocoon?

No I don't, escept that all c
No I don't, escept that all cocoons had them, and there were no parasitoids that emerged. It would be cool to witness the construction! I am pretty sure the holes were part of the initial design, and not punctured or widened mechanically.

I just had 3 larvae weave cocoons in different jars and on different substrates. They all had the holes as did previous rearings. Can't even guess at the what and why.

perhaps to assist the adult after eclosure - if the external silk is especially tough and intended to protect against macropredators.
