Friendly suggestions for getting accurate photo-ID:
This member of the Stenolophini genus group will be among Stenoplophus, Bradycellus, Acupalpus. Posting apparent body length in millimeters often helps the photo-determiner. Your profile mentions a zoology/entomology background and work on a photo-atlas of Arizona beetles. Chances are that you have access to a stereomicroscope for studying beetles. It would be easy recognize the stenolophine genus when the beetle is keyed under scope. The most comprehensive key to North American genera is American Beetles 2001 volume 1 & 2. Therein on page 54 Bradycellus is distinguished by combination of 2nd labial palpomere with just two setae, marginal punctures of posteriolateral elytron not widely divided into two groups, and (most importantly) mentum with a midline tooth. What say you?

Hi Peter
I am collecting all my Carabids for a later thorough examination and I will also send a good number of them to you if you still accept specimens. I am posting them here as a reference point.

I believe you once intended AZ specimens for me
but they were diverted to U. of Arizona. I vaguely recall that the process was not so satisfying since species identifications were not readily forthcoming. Thanks to several BugGuiders having donated specimens to me over past few years, I'm now quite proficient in identifying western Caraboidea (= Geadephaga) which includes the tiger beetles and the rhysodids. I'm happy to help you with your atlas by accepting caraboid specimens for species identification. Have you considered producing one scholarly atlas volume per family or cluster of smaller families? To give you an idea of just a Caraboidea volume for Arizona please see Bousquet 2012 and the
post-2012 Caraboidea registry
. You may contact me privately for details. Did I ever send you the checklist of AZ ground beetles from Bousquet 2012?

Yes, you are correct about my
previous obligation to the UofA. That is now done and I have stored Carabids for you in the freezer for a couple of years. I have to collect a few to reduce the time and shipping cost, but I think it's worth sending them off now. Not all of them have bugguide numbers, but all have location and date so I can line them up with my images and posts.
As for breaking our book down into families or such: maybe later. We are already having difficulties finding a publisher because we are limiting it to Arizona. so I am self publishing. Art Evans is my co author. Your help will be very valuable - Carabids are one of the more difficult families.
