Grub-like insect larva with spines at one end?

Grub-like insect larva with spines at one end?
Presidio Hills, San Francisco County, California, USA
April 23, 2019
Size: ca 15-20 mm
I beat this larva from fallen wood and pine cones. Presumably an insect larva - maybe a beetle larva?

Beetle Larva
Lots of the Darkling Beetle larvae have two apical spines, but I don't see any with the extra set on the previous segment. Some of the Click Beetle larvae look very similar. I think that those two pages should probably be linked in the See Also sections.
This may actually be something else. So, let's wait for an expert.

Thanks
Bob!! Feel to move to the Beetles page as well then - not sure where the best spot is...
